Browse the categories below to see our range of coloured finishes. All prices are per metre. When you order, enter the number of metres you need and we will round your order up to the nearest full length. Our minimum order value for mouldings is £50, although this may be made up of any mixture of different profiles.
For mouldings apart from veneers and bare woods, the description describes the colour finish rather than the timber. Subtle colour tones and texture rarely show as well as we'd like online, so we always recommend that you ask for sample pieces before you order - contact our samples specialist Ian Sanderson, ian@lionpic.co.uk.

Moulding slips are traditionally used to give a neutral border between moulding and canvas art. They can also be used to good effect with many other framing styles & techniques. Small slips can be used to add a sight edge to mounts or mouldings.
Rectangular profiles can be used as a spacer or slip. They can also be fixed to the bottom of a moulding to add depth to the rebate.

Bare wood mouldings can be finished with variety of products to give a vast array of effects - from a simple clear wax that protects and accentuates the grain, to elaborate painted and classic gilded finishes. See the 'Specialist Techniques' section under 'Hardware and Supplies' for our extensive range of finishing products.
The characteristics of bare woods means that there is more variation in colour and grain than for finished mouldings. Some bare woods such as obeche & steamed beech remain fairly consistent whilst others such as black walnut will vary within a single length.
When we despatch full lengths or 'Chop' pieces of bare wood mouldings we'll do our best to match grain, but be prepared for some variation. If ordering full lengths it's often a good idea to allow for more waste than you would with finished mouldings.
If you collect from our trade counters you can select your own mouldings to get the length, colour and grain you want.
All of our ash, black walnut, cherry, jatoba, maple, oak, pine and steamed beech are FSC certified.

Minerva Quality: Minerva mouldings are amde with an extruded polymer core onto which a hot foil finish is applied. Sophisticated manufacturing processes give Minerva advantages over similar wood mouldings, primarily consistency of quality and lower prices. Three elements to the structure of Minerva give the consistency of quality: the Core, the Skin and the Finish.
The core: This is made with extruded foamed polymer, about 70% of which is recycled and 30% is virgin material. The recycled element is derived from two main sources, the electronic industry (computer casings etc) and the food packaging industry. Special additives give a balance of elasticity and rigidity that allows for easy joining yet gives strength to the frame. All waste extruded product is recycled back into the production process.
The Skin: Only virgin polymer granules are used to make the outer surface onto which the hot stamping foil is applied, this gives the very smooth and harder surface onto which the foils are added. This makes Minerva particularly suited to modern glossy finishes such as those in the M136 & M139 ranges where a smooth finish is essential. The quality of material used for the skin layer also allows for a very neat finish when cut on a mitre guillotine or double mitre saw.
The Finish: Hot stamping foils are applied to the smooth, harder outer skin. Sometimes a number of different foils will be used on a single moulding, or grain and textured patterns are embossed into the surface by gently heating the skin.
This combination of Core, Skin and Foil Finish allows for superb consistency of quality and style. Throughout the production process, rigorous quality control procedures maintain the quality and consistency of the core and finish.
To further ensure the quality and value of Minerva, most lengths are individually shrink wrapped and all lengths are the same length, 2.87 metres.
Minerva Value: Minerva mouldings are also excellent value. As the quality is so good and the finish is so stylish, it doesn't have to be a cheap alternative. You can offer your customer a nicer looking moulding for their budget and yet make a little extra profit.
Minerva purchased in full boxes is discounted by 30% from the length price.
Working with Minerva: For a perfect mitre you need to cut the moulding accurately and join it properly. With Minerva there will be no knots, hard wood, warping or twisting to contend with. It does have some different characteristics to wood, and care needs to be taken when cutting.
Mitre Cutting: Minerva cuts easily on a mitre guillotine. Make sure the blades are sharp and take more bites through the moulding than for wood, as you might for hard woods.
On a circular saw the blades need to move quickly through the moulding to prevent heat build up, therefore we only recommend automatic double mitre saws. We supply specialist blades for cutting polymer mouldings, ask us for details.
Joining: When joining Minerva there are three considerations - adhesive, wedges and underpinner setting. We recommend that you always use an adhesive as well as wedges. For the adhesive you have two choices, an instant adhesive or a slower drying adhesive. Much depends on personal preference.
Slower drying adhesives: Adhesives such as Bison PU-MAX polyeurethane, gives you time to get the moulding lined up and set correctly in the underpinner. Wedges hold the mitre tight whileit dries. Use very sparingly.
Instant adhesive: Instant adhesive such as Mitre Mate cyanoacrylate can give a strong join, but has a very short open time. When using instant adhesive it's the adhesive that gives the initial join on the mitre, wedges reinforce and add strength.
Underpinner set-up: Most quality air operated underpinners have a top clamp and rebate clamp. If the fences are not set exactly for the moulding, a powerful rebate clamp can open the join as it pushes the moulding into the fences. Underpinners such as the Inmes IM5-P get around this problem by having separate pressure adjustments for the top and rebate clamps. On other underpinners, experiment by not using the rebate clamp.
Typical wedge positions for Minerva: When wedges are inserted into Minerva, they displace the core material. If too many wedges are inserted into the moulding, or inserted too near the back of the moulding they can open the outside corner.
