For air tight seals

When screwing airline fittings together, metal-to-metal, it is important to ensure air-tight seals. Do this by winding this standard PTFE white tape around the male threads. Leaking joints waste compressed air.

The tape is technically called polytetrafluoroethylene and commonly known as PTFE tape.

Wrap it about three times round the male thread of a fitting and pull away. For it to be fully effective it must be wrapped clockwise around the thread.

The easiest way to remember which way to wind the tape is to hold the fitting in your left hand and apply the tape with your right hand, turning clockwise.

Any workshop with an air compressor should have a roll of PTFE tape in the tool box.
