Hoffmann
The Frame Joiner from Hoffmann joining hard wood picture frame profiles by routing a slot for a dovetail key. The Hoffmann Frame Joiner is a great alternative to an underpinner because it works completely differently by routing a slot for a dovetail joining key. Once tapped into place, the key pulls the corner tightly together. The Hoffmann Frame Joiner is especially useful for getting a great join on tall, narrow moulding profiles and is portable, lightweight and easy to store.
Hoffmann dovetail keys are made in Germany and are ideal for joining narrow hard wood mouldings. The dovetail joint is a classic way of joining timber. On some harder woods and more complex profiles, even the very best underpinners with skilled operators can struggle to get a good join. Precision engineered Hoffmann machines rout a dovetail slot in the faces of the mitre. Specially shaped moulded dovetail keys are then inserted to give an extremely tight and secure mitre joint.
The dovetail shape is a classic feature for precision and quality, both in mechanical engineering and in the wood processing industry. This principle makes the use of the Hoffmann Dovetail Key unique. Due to the extremely precise, double dovetail shape of the Key and its serrated sides, it is always a snug fit and a positive guide when driven into the routered slots. This draws the two mitred corners to be joined, accurately and permanently together.
Whether in industrial use or for trade use: Hoffmann Dovetail keys are easy to use and efficient, not only for bespoke pieces but also in volume production. Picture frames are held together durably, due to the two dovetail-shaped sides which have ribs on the internal sloping surfaces. Firm contact is made in the wood and therefore they grip tightly and keep the parts securely together, preventing any slide or movement of the parts.
