What is foam board used for?
Foam board is a lightweight graphic art board, with a foam core and liner papers on the faces. Foam board is light, durable and flat with good structural strength. Foam board is widely used for mounting and framing artwork. It has all kinds of applications in photo mounting, picture framing, displays and merchandising, printing, mounting and laminating. It is available in many finishes including adhesive backing and aluminium backed. Suitable for many framing, display, presentation and hobby tasks.
How is foam board made?
Polystyrene foam core is extruded, loosely rolled up and then left in a store for 30 days to allow it to out-gas. Specially formulated adhesives bond the polystyrene foam to the paper liners. Once the boards have been laminated they are left to dry and cool. Finally, an automated cutter creates the required sizes ready for packing.
How do I use foam board?
Foam board can be cut in a number of ways. When using a blade such as a Swann Morton scalpel or Stanley knife ensure the blade is sharp to give a nice clean cut. Sheet material cutters such as the Keencut Simplex and Keencut Evolution3 will improve your workshop efficiency when cutting foam board in larger volumes. Foamwerks cutting tools are recommended for cutting custom shapes for use in object framing and modelling. Store foamboard flat in an area where the temperature doesn’t fluctuate to ensure they don't bow.
What is kraft faced foam board?
One face is white, the other has a textured brown kraft face paper. Ideal for use as a backing board for picture frames, giving a traditional look. kraft faced foamboard is easy to cut with a knife or on a mountcutter. Cuts without releasing dust particles coated with formaldehyde which are associated with MDF boards. Non-toxic, pH neutral, CFC free foam board. This foam core board is suitable for backing picture frames, model making, digital printing for displays and hobby tasks.
