Mount Board, Mountboard, Picture Mounts & Sheet Material

Mountboard picture mounts for framing. A range of mount boards from coloured picture mounts, to professional quality Conservation mounting board. Also known as picture mounts, matboard and mat board. Fix the art to mount board to space the art away from glass of the picture frame, this will help preserve the image and enchance its display.

Mount Board is graded using FATG (Fine Art Trade Guild) standards; Cream Core, White Core, Conservation, and Museum. Mat Board Cream Core consists of untreated wood pulp and contains lignin which will cause the board to brown over time. The wood pulp of White Core boards has been chemically treated to remove the lignin, meaning it will not go brown. Conservation contains no post consumer waste waste and is buffered with calcium carbonate. Museum is 100% cotton fibre, naturally acid free, and buffered with calcium carbonate.

Ordering sheet material from LION is easy, you don't have to order in full packs. Mix and match single sheets of mountboard and other selected sheet materials. You just need to order a mixture of at least ten sheets in total.

What is Mat Board?

Mat Board, also referred to as a mat, is a heavy paper-based material used when framing pictures and artwork. Mat Board is a cardboard-like material that sits between the artwork and glass to space the art away from the glass. Mat Board is another popular term for mount board and mounting board.

What is a mount board?

Mount board is traditional component when dry mounting artwork for picture framing. Mounting boards are wood pulp or cotton based boards that are cut to size with a mountcutter. They are graded using FATG standards, these are Cream Core, White Core, Conservation, and Museum. Cut a whole in the mountboard, known as an aperture. The size of the beveled hole cut into a piece of mountboard for the artwork to be displayed through a 'window'.

What is mount board used for?

Mount board is used to support, mount and protect framed artwork by providing a rigid, sturdy backing that keeps photos and art from moving or warping in the frame. Mounting board serves an important function in preserving artwork. It prevents paper from curling and warping and helps keep dust and other environmental particulates from getting inside the picture frame.
