Picture Hanging Cord
Picture hanging cord for hanging pictures on walls. Also known as picture hanging string and picture cord. Low stretch polyester picture cord cannot rot and is capable of hanging large picture frames and mirrors. Our picture cord is made in the UK from white polyester fibre. Cheaper picture cord is often made from nylon, which can stretch by 14% more than polyester cord. Polyester cannot rot so the picture frame will stand the test of time. As a guide, to allow for 'shock' loading, the picture weight should be no more than about one quarter of the breaking strain of the picture hanging string.
When there are reports of picture cord breaking it is often the case that it would be an old cotton cord, which could rot. It is more likely that the picture cord becomes untied from the eye, or the eye itself pulls out, breaks or comes open. Always take care to select fixing hardware which is more than strong enough to support the weight of the frame or mirror.
