Bare Wood Tray Profiles - for Canvases and Flat Panels

To make these solid oak mouldings more affordable, the profile is formed from two pieces of oak bonded with a tongue and groove joint that is glued for added strength. The joint is on the underside of the moulding when used as per the diagram, so is always hidden from sight.

Oak Species: Glacial Oak – a sub-species of Red Oak that is lighter in colour while still maintaining a reddish-brown hue.

Cutting: Oak is one of the hardest woods and can only be worked with on professional framing equipment. For the best quality cut, order this moulding mitre cut to size on our Chop Service.

Joining: Joining Oak takes some skill - because underpinners displace the timber fibres as the v-nail is inserted, getting a tight join on dense hard woods can be a struggle. If you work with these timbers, try the Hoffmann Frame Joiner, which routs a slot for a dovetail key. Once tapped into place, the key pulls the corner tightly together.

Finishing: Give Oak a beautiful finish with neutral or coloured waxes or light stains. Limed and patina effect waxes are very effective. Take a look at our wide range of finishing products.
