Colour and Grain: Varies from mid-brown to a smoky, grey/brown. The wide grain is a darker colour.

Cutting: Walnut is one of the hardest woods and can only be worked with on professional framing equipment. For the best quality cut, order this moulding mitre cut to size on our Chop Service. Walnut is prone to warping and often supplied in shorter lengths than other woods.

Joining: Joining Walnut takes some skill - because underpinners displace the timber fibres as the v-nail is inserted, getting a tight join on dense hard woods can be a struggle. If you work with these timbers, try the Hoffmann Frame Joiner, which routs a slot for a dovetail key. Once tapped into place, the key pulls the corner tightly together.
